Learning, Research, and Community Pilot Project (LRC)

The Learning, Research, & Community Pilot Project (LRC), is a collection of courses that offer opportunities for students to do community based research projects and internships in conjunction with their course work. This project is coordinated by the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning. The aim of these courses is to further enrich the academic experience by creating opportunities for students to connect the theories, methods, and ideas taught in the classroom to "real world" experiences in the community.

The LRC was piloted in six primarily undergraduate courses across the University. Students were placed in over 30 non-profit organizations throughout greater Boston. Many placements are with Harvard's Phillips Brooks House Association and Public Service Network programs. We will continue working with these organizations.

For more information, contact the Bok Center for Teaching and Learning. It is the facilitating agency for academic community based learning at Harvard. The Bok Center is located in the Harvard University Science Center, Room 318. You can call Ronda Jackson, the LRC Pilot Project Coordinator, at the Bok Center: 617-495-4869, or email her at
